Our big guy, Han Solo passed away. 4/15/2024.

We've been here before, more than once. Even made our way home to Florida one time, crying as we drove, only to have the vet say when we got there, "Eh, I think we have more time." Han was tough like that. But the dog with nine lives finally decided it was time to move on.

He was the best boy. Funny, and silly, and ferocious, and sometimes (often) grumpy. But that was okay; he'd lived a harder life than most, so sometimes he needed to be grumpy. Blind from the day we got him, but with personality and attitude big enough to make up the difference. Heart and spirit much larger than the little body he'd been given.

We'll never forget his quirky gait and how his lack of vision led to moments of hilarity – walking into walls, walking into people and other dogs...falling into the pool. The way all four legs would leave the ground in a little hop when he barked, often facing the opposite direction from wherever the "danger" was. How he could scent out trouble – and the warm pile of clean laundry – no matter where it was.

We took him in as a rescue, and it was one of the greatest privileges of our lives to care for him. To be what he needed. What we didn't realize was how much he was taking care of us, too. How much we needed him. It's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog. You had more fight than a dog ten times your size, Han Solo. We love you more than we know how to say, and we'll miss you forever.
